New plan for Eskom to save electricity and reduce charges

I have a suggestion for Eskom for saving electricity and to reduce the electricity charges to the average user..

I was driving around Sandton on Friday night around 2200 hrs (way after office hours) and i noticed quite a few office blocks and high rise buildings had left all their lights on and the buildings were fully lit.. If no one is there at those hours and especially over a weekend, why do these lights need to be on..??

This is just not right especially at a time South Africa and in fact the whole world is crying for energy and destroying the earth in the process by trying to generate more and more energy.. I feel a lot can be achieved by saving electricity and power rather than trying to generate more and more.. These buildings should switch off thelights when there is no one in the offices or using the buildings..

I think that Eskom (and other electricity suppliers) should charge such buildings and office blocks that waste electricity like this and leave it on 24/7/365 maybe even 5 times their normal electricity tariff charges (after a certain reasonable cut-off time depending on the industry and business – exempting places like airports etc)..

Maybe this will discourage these people from wasting electricity.. Such electricity and costs saved by Eskom should be passed onto the average user who has to struggle and go through black outs and load shedding caused as a result of such irresponsible behaviour of a few..

I am sure that Eskom would have already noticed these instances, but not sure if anything has been done about it..

Maybe this is another project for Lead SA to tackle as well..
