The ubiquitous Candle

Life
Merriam-Webster defines Ubiquitous as "existing or being everywhere at the same time : constantly encountered : widespread ".. If you are wondering why I would use this word in relating to something seemingly mundane like "Candle", then think again.. Whether it is made of whale fat, beeswax, tallow or paraffin, the candle is a versatile item that is present in almost every household.. White, red, black, yellow, green.....................................you name the color and there is a candle in that color.. Candles play a big role in our lives, whether young or old......... Here's how.. 1st or 100th birthday party..?? Bring them candles, stick them in the cake, blow them out, eat and be merry.. Power Failure..?? Bring out the candles and bring light back into your life.. Fancy some romance..?? Why…

Leadership of South Africa should realize and wake up..

Politics, Youth Development
Recently, South Africa has been caught in a whirlwind of scandals and protests.. Among these, the one that is currently making headlines is the #feesmustfall campaign by the university students across the country.. I sincerely think that free education for all is possible, but it requires A LOT OF POLITICAL WILL.. KPMG in its research of this #feesmustfall campaign has found that free tertiary education is possible and as per below infographic, 13 countries around the world have already implemented it and it seems to be working for them.. But in South Africa, instead of the political will to achieve this, what we have is alleged gross mismanagement, misappropriation and erosion of funds, due to lack of control on government spending inspite of the many cost cutting measures Finance Minister…

These two topics have come close to my heart after I interacted with Empowervate and forgood as part of their empowerment and volunteer programs and after seeing the potential in the townships.. I assisted in creating a funding plan for Minerva High School in Alexandra, Johannesburg for them to create their Media Centre.. https://www.youtube.com/v/ALxYw2twRVM?autoplay=1&start=500&end=686&controls=1&version=3 Hopefully I will be able to contribute more of my time and knowledge to such worthy causes.. Value – untaught lessons from my parents

Blogging, Life
Age has some advantages and one such advantage is that it brings wisdom alongwith it (albeit not to everyone).. I would like to think that I am one of the lucky few.. Growing up in a low to middle class family in Chennai, India (when India wasn't an economic powerhouse as it is now) living with my dad, mom and 3 sisters,  I was exposed to several things that goes on in a middle class household.. But I didn't realise, understand, grasp or learn about the value of these things much much later in my older years.. Looking back at the many untaught lessons from my parents, I realised that there is one important thing that I have learned and that is Value.. Whether it related to the value of…

Graceful – the way I see it..

Blogging, Life
Graceful - one of the few words that immediately sets your mind racing in search of people to match to it.. This word instantly evokes images of an artistic, smooth, neat, clean and apparently seamless and effortless execution whether it relates to sports or movies.. Not getting the picture..?? Ok, with this word in mind, imagine the performances of A Ronaldinho or a Messi in Soccer A Florence Griffith Joyner in Athletics A Ernie Els or Michelle Wie in Golf A Julia Roberts or Gene Kelly in the Movies A Rudolf Nureyev in the Ballet Now you get the picture.. :) But this word can also apply to inanimate objects like An Aston Martin Vanquish or a Rolls Royce Wraith :) As we say in India, "Ahaaaaa, what a feeling"..…

Test

Blogging, Life
Test - a word that has many connotations and could be a noun or a verb.. But for me, there is one thing that will always stand out most when I hear the word TEST.. It started on bus trip with some people from Germany who were visiting our company in South Africa.. This was a business delegation who were visiting a game reserve on their week-end break.. On the trip we discussed many things and eventually the topic turned to sports and Cricket.. As you may have realised, Cricket as a sport was practiced and played in all Commonwealth nations (all former British colonies).. Since my guests were from Germany, none of them had any idea whatsoever about cricket and how it is played and the rules of the…
