Ingenious use of technology – South Korea

For overwhelmed business people who can’t seem to find time to sleep, let alone do all of the household chores, shopping for groceries can feel like a huge waste of time. European supermarket chain Tesco (known in South Korea as Home Plus) has come up with a brilliant way for South Koreans to do their shopping during the normally-wasted parts of their morning commute: they put grocery store shelf mock-ups on subway platforms.

The “shelves” look just like they do in the stores with products neatly displayed. Each product bears a QR code that, when scanned, drops the item into the shopper’s virtual shopping cart. When their virtual shopping trips are done (hopefully just before their respective trains approach) shoppers choose a time for the food to be delivered to their doors that evening. A load of fresh food can therefore greet busy workers right after they arrive home from work every day.

Although online shopping/home delivery of groceries isn’t a new practice, putting the shopping interface in a public place is. And putting QR codes on the products is simply brilliant. It’s a great example of how technology really can take the most mundane, unpleasant tasks and make them almost enjoyable…or at least less traumatic.

New plan for Eskom to save electricity and reduce charges

I have a suggestion for Eskom for saving electricity and to reduce the electricity charges to the average user..

I was driving around Sandton on Friday night around 2200 hrs (way after office hours) and i noticed quite a few office blocks and high rise buildings had left all their lights on and the buildings were fully lit.. If no one is there at those hours and especially over a weekend, why do these lights need to be on..??

This is just not right especially at a time South Africa and in fact the whole world is crying for energy and destroying the earth in the process by trying to generate more and more energy.. I feel a lot can be achieved by saving electricity and power rather than trying to generate more and more.. These buildings should switch off thelights when there is no one in the offices or using the buildings..

I think that Eskom (and other electricity suppliers) should charge such buildings and office blocks that waste electricity like this and leave it on 24/7/365 maybe even 5 times their normal electricity tariff charges (after a certain reasonable cut-off time depending on the industry and business – exempting places like airports etc)..

Maybe this will discourage these people from wasting electricity.. Such electricity and costs saved by Eskom should be passed onto the average user who has to struggle and go through black outs and load shedding caused as a result of such irresponsible behaviour of a few..

I am sure that Eskom would have already noticed these instances, but not sure if anything has been done about it..

Maybe this is another project for Lead SA to tackle as well..

The tricks our vision plays on us.. Amazing

This is a very very intricate and amazing picture..

Look at the camels first and then read the message below :

This is a picture taken from directly above  these camels in the desert at sunset.  It is considered to be one of  the best pictures of the year.  When you look closely, you can see  that the camels are  the little white lines in the picture. The black images you see are just the  shadows!

Sometimes, our “problems” seem to be as big as the shadows…but they are little..

check before you kiss

Gooooood one.. Haa haa..

A tough looking biker was riding his Harley when he sees a beautiful girl about to jump off a bridge so he stops.

“What are you doing?” he asks. “I’m going to commit a suicide,” she says.

While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn’t want to miss an opportunity he asked “Well, before you jump, why don’t you give me a Kiss?”

So, she does.

After she’s finished, the biker says, “Wow! That was the best Kiss I have ever had. That’s a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous Why are you committing suicide?”

“My parents don’t like me dressing up like a girl……”

Environment friendly bag sealer

Sometimes people are such creative geniuses.. Here’s a great green to recycle plastic already in use..

Seal Plastic Bags with Old Bottle Caps

Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top, as in photo..

Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top to seal.

The bag becomes air-tight, and water tight depending on the top and screw cap..

WHAT A GREAT IDEA.  NO MORE TWIST TIES OR RUBBER BANDS. This method is WATER PROOF AND AIR TIGHT..  GREAT!  The person who first thought of the idea should be given an award for originality !!! Good for us and the environment too..

Please do share with everyone..

Hunting and nature at its best – South Africa

These images were reportedly taken by a British tourist who was staying at Rippon’s Safari Lodge in Eastern Cape, South Africa.. This is nature at its most natural and hunting at its best.. Never underestimate the hunted or the hunters..

Although it escaped in the pictures, it has been reported that the Kudu was killed the next day by the lions that were tracking it because of its injuries and bleeding..

Blue Ribbon … Please support! AGAINST CHILD ABUSE

It’s funny how everyone knows when it’s ‘show your cleavage day’ but few are aware its National child protection week. Make a difference..

BLUE RIBBON against Child Abuse; pass it on please!!

My name is Sarah

I am but three,

my eyes are swollen

I cannot see.

I must be stupid,

I must be bad,

what else could have made

my daddy so mad?

I wish I were better,

I wish I weren’t ugly,

then maybe my Mommy

would still want to hug me.

I can’t speak at all,

I can’t do a wrong

or else I’m locked up

all the day long.

When I awake I’m all alone

the house is dark

my folks aren’t home.

When my Mommy does come

I’ll try and be nice,

so maybe I’ll get just

one whipping tonight.

Don’t make a sound!

I just heard a car

my daddy is back

from Charlie’s Bar.

I hear him curse

my name he calls

I press myself

against the wall.

I try and hide

from his evil eyes

I’m so afraid now

I’m starting to cry.

He finds me weeping

he shouts ugly words,

he says its my fault

that he suffers at work.

He slaps me and hits me

and yells at me more,

I finally get free

and I run for the door.

He’s already locked it

and I start to bawl,

he takes me and throws me

against the hard wall.

I fall to the floor

with my bones nearly broken,

and my daddy continues

with more bad words spoken.

‘I’m sorry!’ I scream

but its now much too late

his face has been twisted

into unimaginable hate.

The hurt and the pain

again and again

oh please God, have mercy!

oh please let it end!

And he finally stops

and heads for the door,

while I lay there motionless

sprawled on the floor.

My name is Sarah

and I am but three,

tonight my daddy

murdered me.

There are thousands of kids out there just like Sarah. And you can help

It sickens me to my soul, and if you just read this and don’t pass it on I pray for your forgiveness, because you would have to be one heartless person to not be affected by this email. And because you are affected, do something about it!! So all I am asking you to do is take some time to send this on and acknowledge that this stuff does happen, and that

people like her dad do live in our society , and pray for child abuse to wither out and die, but also pray for the safety of our youth.

Please pass this poem on as a Blue Ribbon Against Child Abuse because, as crazy as it might sound, it might just indirectly change a life.
