The future is artificial

Blogging, Life
The future is Artificial.. You don't agree..?? Wait, I am not talking about the emotion "artificial".. I am talking about the good "artificial".. Especially in medical terms.. Medical technology has progressed and developed so much that a lot of the parts of the human body that are sick or dying can be replaced with artificial parts.. In medical parlance artificial is also termed as bionics which is a combination of the terms ‘bio’ (relating to life) and 'nics' from electronics.. Bionics therefore is the study of artificial or mechanical systems that are designed to replicate parts of living organisms.. Prosthetic (artificial body part) limbs like hands and legs are quite common right now and are used by many human beings in active day to day life and also in sports..…

You are waiting for what..??

Blogging, Life
Waiting, it can be good or not so good depending on the situation that life puts you in.. We have all waited for something sometime or the other in our life.. We have all done it willingly or unwittingly.. If you are a sniper (the good kind) then its probably something that you HAVE to do.. If you were a lioness on a hunt then it is something that you DEFINITELY have to do (can also be an analogy in business).. If you have stuff in the oven (like I have right now) or sitting in that long line at the doctor's, then it is something you have NO CHOICE over.. Waiting comes in many forms - delaying, postponing, passing time, putting off etc etc and of these forms of…

Urgent Urgent Urgent

Blogging, Life
I admit that I am guilty of it as well.. I am talking about the over-usage of this adjective "URGENT" which means requiring immediate attention.. Especially in the workplace.. A lot of the emails that we write or receive have this word included in it.. Everything that we say or do has some sort of urgency attached to it.. Is it because we don't know the actual meaning of the word or where and when to use it, or is it that we think that if we use this word, people will take it more seriously..?? In my case it used to be the latter.. But did it work..?? Not always.. Judging from the responses or lack thereof, I think people consider it something like the boy from Aesop's fable…

Value – untaught lessons from my parents

Blogging, Life
Age has some advantages and one such advantage is that it brings wisdom alongwith it (albeit not to everyone).. I would like to think that I am one of the lucky few.. Growing up in a low to middle class family in Chennai, India (when India wasn't an economic powerhouse as it is now) living with my dad, mom and 3 sisters,  I was exposed to several things that goes on in a middle class household.. But I didn't realise, understand, grasp or learn about the value of these things much much later in my older years.. Looking back at the many untaught lessons from my parents, I realised that there is one important thing that I have learned and that is Value.. Whether it related to the value of…

Graceful – the way I see it..

Blogging, Life
Graceful - one of the few words that immediately sets your mind racing in search of people to match to it.. This word instantly evokes images of an artistic, smooth, neat, clean and apparently seamless and effortless execution whether it relates to sports or movies.. Not getting the picture..?? Ok, with this word in mind, imagine the performances of A Ronaldinho or a Messi in Soccer A Florence Griffith Joyner in Athletics A Ernie Els or Michelle Wie in Golf A Julia Roberts or Gene Kelly in the Movies A Rudolf Nureyev in the Ballet Now you get the picture.. :) But this word can also apply to inanimate objects like An Aston Martin Vanquish or a Rolls Royce Wraith :) As we say in India, "Ahaaaaa, what a feeling"..…

Test

Blogging, Life
Test - a word that has many connotations and could be a noun or a verb.. But for me, there is one thing that will always stand out most when I hear the word TEST.. It started on bus trip with some people from Germany who were visiting our company in South Africa.. This was a business delegation who were visiting a game reserve on their week-end break.. On the trip we discussed many things and eventually the topic turned to sports and Cricket.. As you may have realised, Cricket as a sport was practiced and played in all Commonwealth nations (all former British colonies).. Since my guests were from Germany, none of them had any idea whatsoever about cricket and how it is played and the rules of the…
